March Author Events

Quite a few interesting authors will be speaking in March, including two authors who will be having events in multiple  venues.

James Carroll, news director of Brandeis University and foreign affairs columnist for The Jewish Advocate, will be speaking about his book, Jerusalem, Jerusalem: The Ancient City that Ignited the Modern World at several events this month.  First up, he will be speaking at the Leventhal-Sidman Jewish Community Center in Newton on Tuesday, March 1st as part of the 2010 Distinguished Authors Series.  Then, on Friday, March 11th at 7pm he will be speaking at the Harvard Bookstore.  Finally, on March 16th at 6pm he will be speaking at the Boston Public Library in Copley Square as part of their ongoing Author Talk Series.

On Tuesday, March 8th at 7pm, Porter Square Books will host Brookline resident Edith Pearlman, who will discuss her new collection of short stories, Binocular Vision.

On Friday, March 11th at 6:30pm, Temple Israel will be hosting the annual Carl Steinbaum Program.  This year, Rabbi Louis Rieser will be giving a presentation entitled The Night Hillel Was Snowed In: Lessons from the first Rabbi to the 21st Century, based on his book, The Hillel Narratives: What the tales of the first rabbi can teach us about our Judaism.

Mark R. Warren is another author who will be speaking multiple times this month.  He will discuss his book on social justice, Fire in the Heart, at both the Harvard Bookstore at 7pm on Wednesday, March 16th and the Brookline Booksmith at 7pm on Tuesday, March 29th.

On March 23rd at 8pm, the Jewish Community Center of the North Shore will be live broadcasting an interview with the Barefoot Contessa which is taking place in New York City.  Ina Garten will talk about her career and her personal life and will answer questions from the audience as part of this interactive event.  Tickets for this event are available online.

Fans of cookbooks will have another exciting event on Friday, March 25th at 6pm, when Porter Square Books will host Joan Nathan who will discuss her book, Quiches, Kugels and Couscous: My Search for Jewish Cooking in France.

To wrap up the month's author events, on Thursday, March 31st at 6pm, the Harvard Bookstore will host a reading by Sandra E. Rapoport from her new book, Biblical Seductions: Six Stories Retold Based on Talmud and Midrash.

In addition to all of these interesting events, the Brookline Booksmith's reading group will be discussing Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay at their meeting on March 14th at 7:30pm.  This novel, which is set in Paris in both 1942 and 2002, considers an actual event that took place in France during the Holocaust.  The book was a previous selection of our book group as well.
